Vietnamese Noodle Soup, a Shekou restaurant with a green façade and lime-colored décor in a retail strip off Nan Hai Road near Wal-Mart, makes some of the best pho in Shenzhen, pho sure. As Chinese cuisine displays a love of pork, Vietnamese food makes an art form of beef – and this little pho shop takes that art to another level. Its supply of tender, flavorful beef permeates menu items including grilled beef skewers on spring rolls, or goi bo sate nuong, an 18RMB appetizer. The flash-cooked rare steak in broth, or soup bo tai, is a great choice for 15RMB, especially for non-carb eaters.

Another tasty option is the restaurant’s Vietnamese-Style Cabbage Chicken Salad – goi da di bo, 越南式的白菜鸡肉沙拉 – for 18RMB, with caramelized onions, basil, poached chicken, and chopped peanuts on a bed of shredded fresh cabbage, dressed with a light vinaigrette.

The Ping-Pong Beef Meatball & Beef Flank Tendon Noodle Soup – pho bo wien gan, 乒乓牛肉丸子,牛腩筋汤面 – is a filling dish for 19RMB. The well-seasoned meatballs complement noodles that diners won’t want to stop chop-sticking out of the bowl.
The menu has English translations for all items and pictures of most. Staff members are friendly and the furnishings are clean.

Fantastic (still-will)
I dream about the cabbage and chicken salad.
